Biography

Hello!

My name is Jared and I am an Irish product / industrial designer that lives in Glasgow. Originally from Cloughey in Ireland, I developed a love of all things design when I was young. I was always curious about how toys were made when I was a child. I destroyed everything when I was young. In a methodical way though. I then found inspiration during my technology and design classes in school when we were taught about Philippe Starck, famed French designer who brought the world products like the Juicy Salif Citrus-Squeezer. I found it astonishing how some simple designs revolutionised the world and are known globally for their aesthetic where form is not over function but merely working simultaneously.

I have had multi-disciplinerary background to design. During school I focused on furniture design which had a focus environmental and minimal user-construction. In later years during my undergraduate I focused on designing for manufacture and assembly. Material consideration was a large contributing factor focusing on how it would aid the aesthetic and ergonomics of the design. During my postgraduate course I focused on how user-centric design should be the leading principle and all others should come second. This allowed me to focus on how research and development are an integral part of the design process.
